Wednesday, October 14, 2026 — Rejected at the Open, Broken at 12:45: 42% of Tuesday’s Squeeze Handed Back

NIFTY futures opened at 22,784.1 on Wednesday, right at the top of the daily CPR, and printed the session high of 22,816.6 inside the first bar. It never traded that high again. The market spent the morning rotating between 22,700 and 22,780, broke the 22,702 pivot in two violent bars at 12:45 and 13:00, tagged 22,580.0, and closed at 22,648.5, down 186.3 points (-0.82%).

That is 42% of Tuesday's 448-point squeeze handed back in one session. Yesterday's close left a plain question about the single prints above 22,700: accepted or filled. Today answered it: they were accepted for three hours and then abandoned.

Order Flow Analysis

Open-Rejection-Reverse: the high came in the first bar and stayed there

The 9:15 bar was the day's heaviest at 10.04K volume, with 60.78% of it on the sell side and a delta of -2.16K. It opened at the CPR top, ran up to 22,816.6, and then reversed back through the open before the bar was done. The high went unvisited for the rest of the session, which is why the profile tags it a Poor High.

Cumulative delta was negative from the first bar and never recovered

Cumulative delta sat at -2.16K after one bar and -4.28K by 10:15. From there it held between about -3.9K and -4.6K all the way to 12:30 while price rotated sideways around a flat VWAP near 22,758. That is sellers pressing and buyers absorbing at the same prices, a balance rather than a trend.

The break: two bars, 3.65K of delta

At 12:45 the sell-side stepped up: delta -1.47K on 79.63% sell volume. The 13:00 bar then printed 7.57K volume, the day's second heaviest, with a delta of -2.18K and 83.62% selling. Cumulative delta went from -5.06K to -8.71K in two bars, price lost the 22,702 pivot and the CPR bottom (22,625) and ran to 22,580.0, within a point of the September low and the Camarilla L4, both at 22,579.

OI Sense: every state was a bearish one

The overlay alternated between Short Build Up and Long Unwinding through the morning and settled on Short Build Up for the rest of the session. Neither of the bullish states appeared at any point. Fresh shorts adding into a falling price is the cleaner of the two bearish reads.

After the break: no more selling, no real recovery either

The low held for the last two and a half hours and cumulative delta stayed in a narrow -8.1K to -8.9K band. The one real buying push was the 13:45 bar (+785 on 70.98% buy volume), and it ran out of room under the pivot. VWAP slid from 22,758 to about 22,700 and the market spent the rest of the afternoon below it. Close: 22,648.5, 68.5 points above the low.

NIFTY order flow, October 14, 2026

15-minute footprint. A rejected open, a flat morning balance around VWAP with cumulative delta quietly negative, then the 12:45 and 13:00 break on 79% and 84% sell volume. OI Sense reads Short Build Up for the second half of the day.

Key Order Flow Takeaway

  • The high came in the first bar (22,816.6) and was never revisited — an Open-Rejection-Reverse right at the CPR top.
  • Cumulative delta negative all session, -2.16K after one bar and -8.46K at the close.
  • The break was two bars: -1.47K and -2.18K of delta on 79.63% and 83.62% sell volume, taking 3.65K off cumulative delta in 30 minutes.
  • No bullish OI Sense state all day — Short Build Up and Long Unwinding only.
  • The low printed on a three-way level — the September low, Camarilla L4 and the day's low all sit at 22,579 to 22,580 — and held for the last 2.5 hours.

Market Profile Analysis

Wednesday builds a double distribution. The morning distribution is a tight cluster between roughly 22,745 and 22,805 (periods A to G), with a Poor High at the top, the TPO POC at 22,746.6 and the value area high at 22,803.7. A thin run of H-period single prints then drops from about 22,740 to 22,600 — the 12:45 break — and a second, lower distribution forms around 22,640 to 22,700 in the I to M periods, with the volume POC near 22,640.

The TPO count at the POC is [16/42], 16 above and 42 below, which is the profile saying most of the time was spent under the high. A Poor Low sits at the 22,580 extreme.

NIFTY market profile, October 14, 2026

30-minute TPO. A double distribution: a morning cluster under a Poor High, a thin run of H-period single prints, and an afternoon distribution near 22,640 to 22,700, ending on a Poor Low at 22,580.

Structural Levels

For Thursday, from today's H/L/C (22,816.6 / 22,580.0 / 22,648.5): a narrow, 33-point CPR (TC 22,665.1 / BC 22,698.3) with a bearish lean, sitting entirely inside Wednesday's wider band and with the close below it. A narrow CPR is the setup for a directional day rather than a rotational one, and today's close sits underneath it.

Resistance

  • 22,698 / 22,714 — the CPR top and Thursday's Camarilla H3, stacked.
  • 22,779 / 22,783 — Thursday's Camarilla H4 and R1, stacked.
  • 22,817 — today's high, the unvisited Poor High.

Support

  • 22,580 / 22,583 — today's low, Thursday's Camarilla L3 and the September low, a stack.
  • 22,547 — Thursday's S1.
  • 22,518 — Thursday's Camarilla L4.
  • 22,445 — Thursday's S2, and below that the 22,368 to 22,371 shelf where Monday's and Tuesday's lows sit.

Options and Futures OI

By the 3:15 pm check, PCR had gone from 1.38 at the open to 0.87, max pain from 22,700 to 22,600, and futures OI was up 1.1% on the day — more contracts open at a lower price, the signature of Short Build Up the overlay was showing. Inside the ±15 strike window, call OI added 607L against 68L of puts, with the biggest writes at 23,000 CE (+57L) and 22,700 CE (+52L).

Futures fell much further than spot: 186 points against about 99. The premium over spot compressed from about 113 points at Tuesday's close to about 26 at today's, consistent with leveraged longs leaving the futures first.

Heading into the day, FIIs held a net short of about 289K index futures contracts, down from 296K the session before as the squeeze covered some of it, and DIIs were net long near 55%. A day like this one, with fresh call writing and fresh shorts, is what rebuilding that short position looks like.

Trading Implications

The continuation case. Short Build Up through the afternoon, cumulative delta at -8.5K, a close under both VWAP and a narrow CPR, and call writers adding at 22,700 and 23,000 all point lower. The 22,665 to 22,714 zone is the wall; reclaiming it needs delta to flip first.

The floor case. The 22,579 to 22,580 stack held on the first touch, delta stopped falling after 13:00, and the only real buying burst (+785 at 13:45) came off the lows. A hold above that stack with a close back through 22,714 would make the break look like a one-hour shakeout.

The level that decides it. A loss of 22,580 puts 22,547 and then 22,518 in play directly. A close above 22,714 argues Wednesday was a sharp give-back, not a fresh leg down.

Conclusion

Tuesday's squeeze was the question and Wednesday was the answer: the single prints above 22,700 were tested, held for three hours, and then abandoned in two bars. What remains is a market at 22,648.5, under a narrow CPR, on top of a three-way floor at 22,580. Which of those two gives way first is Thursday's story.
